Invasive Plant Removal

Invasive, non-native species of plant are a concern in the UK. Dealing with them is a priority if they are on your land.

Genesis Environmental have the skills, knowledge and experience to deal with the three major invasive plant species.

Japanese Knotweed

It may look pretty, but it’s the thug of the plant world.

Spreading rapidly during the summer months, in winter it dies back to beneath ground level. In early summer, its bamboo-like stems shoot to over 7 feet tall.

Eradication requires a combination of steely determination, experience of the plant and knowledge of the latest legislation and a long term treatment plan.

It is illegal to have Japanese Knotweed in your garden or on your land and you will require a specialist contractor such as Genesis Environmental to deal with it effectively.

Giant Hogweed

A common sight, Giant Hogweed is a close relative of cow parsley. But this plant from Southern Russia and Georgia reaches over 10 feet and is invasive to in any area in which it grows. Its sap can also cause severe skin burns.

Giant Hogweed is not subject to statutory obligations like Japanese Knotweed but, it is undesirable, invasive and out-competes native plants.

Anything that invades more than half a garden is classed as a weed and requires control.

Giant Hogweed is an invasive alien plant that we can deal with, using both chemical and non-chemical methods.

Himalayan Balsam

A relative of the ‘Busy Lizzie’, Himalayan Balsam reaches well over head height and smothers native vegetation. It is a major weed problem, especially on river banks and wasteland. It invades gardens too, spreading quickly and growing rapidly.

Introduced to the UK in 1839, it is now considered a problem that needs to be dealt with. Like Giant Hogweed, it is not subject to statutory obligation but if you have Himalayan Balsam, we have a range of chemical and non-chemical treatments to rid your garden and property of this invasive plant species.
